Continuing LTLYM assignments....

Assignment #25: Make a video of someone dancing.

Assignment #37: Write down a recent argument.

Members involved: Mexican Male-David, White Male- Shawn, Black Male- John.

David: I'm tired of you white people pushing everyone around and taking credit for everything. (said with sarcasm)

John: Man I don't even see color, this is my brother. I go to his house his mom makes me a plate, I can sleep ion his couch. I was there when his daddy died and he was there when my daddy died. We are brothers I don't see color.

David: I'm just tired of their shit. Don't get me wrong I believe ya'll are brothers but just like Vietnam, all Mexicans were in the front, all the blacks behind them, and the whites in the back. Thousands of Mexcian's died, thousands of blacks died, and a little bit of the whites died. The whites stayed back saying Go, go get them.

Shawn: I am tired of people arguing the past. I wasn't there, you weren't there, I wasn't born in the 1700's so why in the hell are we arguing about it. You want to argue? Then lets fucking argue, but lets argue about today, the here and now. Quit all the bullshit living in the past lets argue about the present.

David: No I am just saying it happened back then, and is still happening now. (winking as he is purposely pushing Shawn's buttons to get him fired up)

Shawn: Ok you want to argue about the past, we got to go all the way back then. I say we go around beating all the women's asses because its Eves fault we have to wear clothes. Fuck it give us three more shots of patron.

John: And three more beers.

*the argument ended there and they continued laughing and discussing music.

Working on LTLYM assignments:

Assignment #15: Hang a Wind-chime on a tree in a parking lot.
Assignment #50: Take a flash photo under your bed.
Assignment #1: Make a child's outfit in adult size.
Assignment #n68: Feel the news.
Assignment #69: Climb to the top of a tree and take a picture of the view.
Assignment #33: Braid someone's hair.
Assignment #30: Take a picture of strangers holding hands.
Assignment #11: Photograph a scar and write about it. This scar was on my friend Debra. When we were in forth grade she was opening a door and turned to talk to me and her heel slid under the door and cut her tendon in half. She went through surgery and therapy. I remember getting out of class early everyday because she took longer to walk to the school bus and I had to carry her backpack. her cast went all the way up to her hip. We met in 1st grade and still hangout to this day.
These scar photos were of Greg's arm and leg from a car accident. He had major ulna nerve damage and lost his leg. He was a sleeping passenger when the driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit a tree.
This scar photo is of my very first scar I ever recieved. The scar left behind as a baby when I was physically seperated from my mother, my belly button.

Spoon Rings!

I have been and am still in the process of making spoon rings. I cut the handles off of spoons and using a torch, pliers, and any pre rounded metal objects (for assistance in shaping) I have bent them into rings.

Choosing a Mission ....port reading

After reading this article it resurfaces the initial question of what is art? what makes art art? A question I have yet learned to fully and correctly answer. However when a person asks me about art or if something is art my response is: Art is subjective and relative. I don't really answer but give the inquisitive person new questions to ask themselves in order to answer their initial question. I then compare the currant matter being questioned to preexisting art that relates. When the article states "Today's artists heal, sell, teach, build cook, dance, document, perform, recite, preach, and more" I thought to myself as an artist I do all of that. Being an experimenting and open ended artist I feel I do all these things and makes it that much harder for me to define to someone who is asking. As an artist My only mission is to make things I enjoy making, and do things I enjoy doing. The process is more important than the outcome.

Crafting an artistic "self" ...port reading

After reading this article many people who I know, and some famous that I don't know, but know about, came to mind. However In my feelings about myself, Who am I? I am outgoing and and random. I feel My clothing, my style, and my art all represent this. I do use clothing, tattoos, make up, and style to portray who I am or what I feel but unlike the article In don't feel it is misleading. I wear my heart on my sleeve and what you see is what you get. I am just as random and outgoing in my acts as I am in my style, my art, and my mind, therefore I feel its not a cover up or persona IT IS ME.

Exercise one....port questions

Q: What work have you made that seems most yours? Why? A: I have done random acts of art and also my tangible abstract pieces seem most mine. They combine my love for hands on, relative, and creation with my free spirit and love for the social environment. Q: Who are artists that are making work that relates to you? Are there other influences? How are these other influences connected to your work? A: Tara Donovan and Richard Tuttle both have work that relates to me and my work and interests me. My environment and my history both influence my work. I am big on recycling, making the world a better place, and I grew up in rural Florida. I tend to repurpose or reuse everyday objects in my work. Some of my work is ocean based, Florida themed, or “Country” or folk. I work in a variety of mediums and styles. Q: “And while a hundred civilizations have prospered (sometimes for centuries) without computers or windmills or even the wheel, none have survived even a few generations without art.” Discuss in your own words why you think this is so. A: Because art is a form of communication. No matter if it is a cave painting carrying the message of how that group of people hunted bison or it’s a modern song explaining ones feelings that another person relates to. To survive you need air, food and water; to be happy you need to surround yourself with people you love and people who make you happy. Communication being a key factor in survival and happiness means more than material or scientific items or ideas of a specific time. Which relates to the saying “money cannot buy you happiness.” This also relates in nature, animals value their forms of communications to survive without relying on any materialistic advancement. Q: “Art is something you do out in the world, or something you do about the world, or even something you do for the world. The need to make art may not stem solely from the need to express who you are, but from need to complete a relationship with something outside of yourself.” Which of these ideas resonates most with you? Why? If they all resonate, how do they differ? A: My re-using and repurposing tangible things in my art are for the world. If I can recycle in my art I do. However I also am interested in public art, public performance art, and installations which is art that’s more in your face, out in the world. Q: “Making art depends upon noticing things-things about yourself, your methods, your subject matter.” What do you notice about yourself? What are your methods? Subject matter? The answers do not have to be limited to art related topics. A: I am free spirited, open to new things, and try anything once. My methods are explorations with happy accidents. I try new things all the time. I enjoy re-using or repurposing things in my art. I love nature and being outdoors and putting myself in that environment while doing my art is one of my main methods. My subject matter is endless with my great use of exploration but often reflects my love for nature. Q:”The only work really worth doing- the only work you can do convincingly- is work that focuses on things you care about.” “All this suggests a useful working approach to making art: notice the objects you notice.” What do you care about? The answers do not have to be limited to art related topics. A: I care about being happy and living life to its fullest. This shows in my work. I am expressive of my feelings in everything I do. I enjoy doing random art that may seem to lack focus but always has a sense of exploration, of freedom, and performance.

walk the line response ...draw3

Being a fan of performing arts I really enjoyed the work francis Alys. I admire the amount of work and effort put in. I enjoy that while he is occupying the space around the viewer he is also invading the viewers mind. ______________________________________________________ I also enjoyed the work of Janine Antoni. Performance work done for oneself is so rewarding. After viewing her performance and hearing her explanations I felt inspird in my own work. It also reminded me of the documentary 'Man on Wire'. And in doing my own walk the line peice I found myself thinking back to her work. ________________________________________________________ After reading the article about William Pope L. I had a similar opinion as to Francis Apts work. The amount of work and effort put in is admirable. I greatly enjoy the fact that invades the mind and space of the viewer. The article mentions the cameras altering the pedestrians reaction, however I feel though this is altered it is still successful. Although the viewer may gawk they still become inquisitive within their minds.

Erasing....for drawing 3

I showed up at a few places in costume as an attempt to erase my identity. For the most part kept my head lowered to hide my facial features.

I witnessed the erasing of Cody's man-hood/stamina during his gelding.

I made marks in the sand and let the ocean erase them.
